The Dragon King below the Jing River defied the orders of the Jade God of the Heavens and was executed. His ghost resented the Tang Emperor Taizong for not saving him, and dragged the Emperor to the Underworld.

What would the Emperor see in the Underworld? Was he able to return to life?

My Favourite Chinese Stories is a collection of three Chinese stories specially selected and retold in English for young readers. The first story is from Chinese mythology, while the other two are from classical Chinese literature. They are widely known to the Chinese people, and reflect, in varying degrees, some of the essential characteristics of Chinese culture. Each story is accompanied by beautiful full-colour illustrations drawn by Lo King-man as well as audio narration by the author Pamela Youde.

Pamela Youde was born in Kent, England, but has lived in China and Hong Kong for more than fifteen years. She first went to China in 1948 to work for the Information Department of the British Embassy in Shanghai, then moved to Nanjing, and in 1950 to Beijing to help open the Embassy there when that city became the capital of China. After her marriage, she studied Chinese at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. She returned with her husband to Beijing and lived there from 1953 to 1955, then from 1959 to 1961, and again from 1974 to 1978 when her husband was appointed the British Ambassador in that city. She lived in Hong Kong from 1982 to 1986 while her husband was the Governor of Hong Kong.

Lo King-man, a versatile artist, designer, and producer for the theatre. He was the Director of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts from 1993 until his retirement in 2004.
