Xiao-li is an orchestra member of a church in a Chinese village, with a dying husband suffering from pneumosilicosis at the hospital, while their nine-year-old daughter Sheng-yue leaves school for lacking of tuition fee.
Everyday Xiao-li rehearses the Wedding March in the church, and there, a pair of Christians is celebrating their wedding one day. After the wedding, Xiao-li goes to the hospital as usual, but this time she is going to take her husband home, giving up any treatments.
Her husband dies on the way; Xiao-li rides her three-heel cart home with his body. He buried is inhumed after a simple memorial ceremony. Xiao-li uses their remaining savings to pay the tuition fee for Sheng-yue.
Xiao-li and her daughter sing the thanksgiving song at the dinner table.

小麗是中國農村基督教會聖樂隊的一員。丈夫得了矽肺奄奄一息在住院,9歲的女兒盛悅拖欠學費被退學。
小麗每天在教會排練婚禮進行曲,這天迎來了一對農民基督徒在教堂的婚禮。婚禮後,小麗像往常一樣去醫院,但這次是拉丈夫出院,放棄治療。丈夫死於途中,小麗拉著丈夫的屍體回家。經過簡單的追思禮拜,埋葬了丈夫。小麗把僅有的錢給盛悅交了學費。母女倆在晚餐桌上唱起謝飯感恩的歌。
