A woman, running from her past, is led by a mysterious locket to The White City. A father trying to save his dying daughter is preparing to make the greatest sacrifice. A young inventor, on the verge of discovering a new energy source, battles dark forces that he cannot see. What these three strangers don’t know is that they have been guided by a man who has walked the earth for five thousand years, Enoch.

From the days of Babylon to the French Revolution, Enoch has been in the shadows working for a higher power and guided by a love he knows can never be. His enemies have changed but their goal remains the same, control over all humanity. And now, all his battles have led him to three special strangers and one special moment in history, the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893.

“Exploring the dynamic between science and religion, the nature of time and other dimensions, the author takes us on a rollercoaster journey from past to present and from ancient Hebrew mythology to modern cosmology.”

– Peter Mann, author of Sheriff of Wanchai

“A work of extraordinary synthesis.”

– Proverse Prize Judging Panel

SERGIO MONTEIRO grew up in Washington DC, moving to Hong Kong when his family relocated there in the early 90s. An alumnus of the English Schools Foundation (ESF) and the University of New Brunswick, Canada, he now works in Hong Kong as a teacher.

He started writing short stories in his early twenties but soon after sought out the challenges of writing larger and larger pieces. He views writing as the art of, “Making someone see in their mind, what you do in yours, but with as few words as possible.”

His debut novel, Other American Dreams, was praised for offering an unflinching look at the migrant crisis of Western and North Africa. He has since been featured on the Macanese arts program, Montra Do Lilau, RTHK’s Morning Brew with Peter King, Radio Television Macau with Jorge Vale and the ESF Alumni News quarterly.
