The Management of Cultural Heritage in Hong Kong The image of Hong Kong is that of a metropolis with little remaining of the past. Yet there are rich cultural assets on this island, both tangible and intangible, reflecting Hong Kong's heritage. For various political, economic and social reasons, both the public and the government paid little attention to the past as a cultural resource prior to the 1970s. The situation, however, has improved since the 1970s, again for political, economic and social reasons. The emergence and development of cultural heritage management in Hong Kong is reviewed in this paper, and a few proposals are made.
