Design studio is where architectural ideas can be explored freely. The final outcome of this exploration will give an indication of the students' skill in realizing the initial concepts and translating them into unique creations. This booklet contains these innovative expressions from the Habitation Studio of 2008-09. The studio is organized within a broadly-held architectural position that one of the chief factors that shapes architecture and urban form is the culture in which the building is situated. Habitation Studio is about how consideration of habits, beliefs, values, behavioural patterns, and functionality would guide the development of an architectural exploration. This focus can be seen in the selected projects contain in this booklet from years two and three of the BSSc programme, and year one and thesis year of the MArch programme. They serve as a record of teaching / research development of the sharply-defined Habitation Studio. More importantly, it provides good reference for students' further advancement and enhances design teaching / research strategy for teachers. We hope that this collection of design projects would contribute towards the development of studio teaching pedagogy both here at this School and in other similarly minded programmes.
