This book covers all the necessary aspects of our knowledge on nasopharyngeal carcinoma, from anatomy, histopathology, epidemiology, experimental studies, clinical manifestations, clinical and laboratory diagnostic methods to the latest imaging techniques. It also contains all of the information necessary for the clinician to reach the proper staging of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and to treat the tumour efficiently. In addition, it offers guidance on screening family members in order to better control very early tumours or even precancerous conditions. This second and fully revised edition updates comprehensively the knowledge on nasopharyngeal carcinoma and provides readily available access to the experience accumulated in an endemic region covering many aspects of this disease. The Editors also provide an up-to-date and comprehensive reference of interest to all who interact with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, whether it be in a clinical, laboratory or research setting. The authors of various chapters are specialists in their respective fields, and this new edition is again carefully edited by Professor Andrew van Hasselt and Professor Alan Gibb.

Professor Andrew van Hasselt received his medical training at The University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He is Professor of Surgery at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and in 1985 was responsible for establishing the Division of Otorhinolaryngology at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong of which he is currently the head. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma has become an abiding interest.

Professor Alan Gibb, a graduate of Aberdeen University in Scotland, was for over 24 years head of the Department of Otolaryngology of The University of St. Andrews, which was later incorporated into The University of Dundee. He then held successive appointments as Visiting Professor in Otorhinolaryngology in The National University of Malaysia, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The National University of Singapore. During his career, he received many honours, including the Presidencies of the Section of Otology of the Royal Society of Medicine and the British Association of Otolaryngologists. In 1991 he was appointed Li Dak Sum Visiting Professor in Surgery at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His interest in nasopharyngeal carcinoma was stimulated by several spells of work overseas, including Army Service in Africa in the Second World War.
