------------------

The East-West Center (EWC) was established in Honolulu, Hawai’i in 1960 by the U.S. Congress to promote mutual understanding and peaceful relations between the United States and the Asia-Pacific region.

Dr Verner C. Bickley, MBE, was Director of the Culture Learning Institute at EWC from 1971 to 1981. Dr P.J. Philip was a Fellow at the Institute from 1975-1982. Each of these two scholars had significant prior and later experience.

This book reissues a 1981 publication, which focuses on crucial issues of cross-cultural and international relations from the standpoints of economics, political philosophy, education, and ethics. Most of the papers included are a result of a 1976 conference, “Emerging issues in Cultural Relations in an Interdependent World,” co-sponsored by the East-West Center Culture Learning Institute (CLI), Honolulu, Hawai’i, and the Council on Foundations, New York.

This 2026 edition includes the 1981 description of the book and also of the editors.

Cultural Relations in the Global Community is reissued now among other writings and research to preserve the legacy of thought and commitment of which it is part.
